26 January 2011

Well, Jack is finally on the mend. As I mentioned, he started eating again a day or so ago.

Now poor Rod is down with it. He was 'off" yesterday morning and by the time I got off work, he had to have me drive. If you know Rod, you know how serious that has to be. And last night, I again saw the "semi-tropical" side of him come out again. He was under three blankets and still shuddering, so I put four more on him. He finally relaxed, and then he commented on how weird it is to him to sleep under "40 pounds of blankets".

Poor Jack is still going to be stuck in bed reading. He doesn't like to get too far from Dad until I get home, and that's what there is to do when Dad is sick. Knowing Jack, he'll sleep as long as he possibly can before he deals with being on his own, and I have made sure there is something for him to eat when he does wake up (leftovers, a PB&J, and bananas and apples). Rod will get up a few times to make sure Jack's doing oK and if he needs something, Rod is good about dealing with it.

Did I even think to mention that Jack won third place in his chess tournament on Saturday? I don't think I did, because by the time he got home, it was pretty clear he wasn't well. But he did. He won third place for his division. Rod says that Jack will play in this division one more year and he speculates that he'll be pretty close to the top when he ages out, especially now that there is a game group meeting on Tuesdays these days with several other kids who like chess, in addition to his once a month chess club meeting, so he's getting more practice.

Oh, I thought, too, that I'd mention that believe it or not, last night's 365 photo was a triumph. I have set myself a rule that I won't use post production to improve a photo for this purpose (thus the photos seeming a bit ordinary sometimes.) and I have been using the every-day-ness of it to try to stretch myself to things I haven't tried before. For a couple of weeks now I have been trying to capture low-light images. Mostly I have gotten blurry, pixilated, yellow blobs. Last night, I think I finally found the setting that works. It's not much of a picture in the sense of telling a story, but the light is interesting and the photo is pretty clear.

Next challenge: capture the texture I so love in other people's work.

(The photo above is one I took of my 'niece', Tiffani, and her husband Kody on their wedding day last summer. Aren't they beautiful young people? I wonder whether, when I am ready to start tackling portraits, they'd be willing to play for an afternoon at the p[ark... Hmmm.)

Jack's 365 Project: day 6

Jack's 365 Project: day 5

Poor little guy

Since late October, Jack has been having clear signs of another food sensitivity.

It's been sporadic, and we've been trying to narrow it down with little success. Every time we think we've found it, the symptoms strike again -- usually at the worst possible moment.

Finally on Saturday we started trying to document all that Jack eats and the state of his symtoms. I think it's possible that the symptoms are more than a day delayed and that's what's throwing us off.

Needless to say, Jack is far from thrilled at the idea of cutting out more food from his diet. He's pretty sure it's something he loves. Chocolate, maybe.

Poor guy.

Jack 365 Project: day 1

Whew! 1 Day Out Of 365 days.

365 is a project that you go around looking for things to picture every day and you do it for 365 days, or in other words, one year.

This is my own chess set; I am involved in chess. I think the game is interesting to try and capture the king with your pieces. My own camera ran out of batteries, so I had to use Mamma's.

Exchanging Gifts

Whew! it's Been Hard Getting Presents for Everybody! Because we are going Like this: ZIP... Zoom! Ahem ... Anyway,Let Me explain why:Because Y is a Crooked Letter and can"t be made straight?

No.

Because first we're going this way, then we go that way, then we go to bed, then we go this way and then we go that way, so it's all pretty "Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall".

First we go in to one shop, then another shop, then bed, then another shop then another shop.

And for a seven year old that's all quite busy, busy, busy.

Jack's Thoughts on Visiting Grandpa

We go see Grandpa John in Lansing because he's in residential care.
Grandpa John is my spare Grandpa. He isn't actually my grandpa, but both of my biological grandpas died before I was born.
Anyway, we went to the Potter Park zoo with him. We saw a lion in a close cage (Potter Park has very little cages inside!), a tiger who was pacing, lemurs that looked very excited, goats (as you can see above). There was an ass who made a lot of noise. Maybe because they were in such small cages.
Then is was closing time, so we had to go back to Grandpa's residential care. We stayed there a bit. It was fun, I think.

14 November 2010

I played soccer by myself in the yard yesterday with two balls. And I also played some golf.

The most fun part of karate class yesterday was dodging the bat and so Sensei thinks I practice a lot more than I do because I am doing well by a seven-year-old's standards.

Our Street's Repairs

This blog post is about our street being torn up. Now, we thought our street was perfect, but apparently the government didn't, so here are some photos of the construction work.
We got a note from the government that it would happen on that day.
The first thing I saw was some BIG trucks outside. It surprised me at first but then I remembered that we were having constructions works here and I said "Oh! OK" and I started to have a show. I had a nectarine at the time, so I went outside to have a nectarine and a show.
Then I went back inside so Dad could have a show as well. He said that cameras would be a nice thing if we were going to have a show. Our friends would like to have a show out of action. Then we got the cameras and we took a few photos, as you can see above and below.
I know this is a very short blog post, but this is the end of my blog post.
Goodbye.

The Experiment by Jack

The experiment was one plant with no water or sunlight and one with exactly the opposite. It was one pumpkin plant.
The no water and sunlight one didn't grow.

The other one did.

Then we moved the unhappy one from the deep darkness and it still didn't grow!

We'll try and give the unhappy one some water and see what happens next.
