Lockdown

Lockdown

I find an interesting irony in the idea that there are two places one comminly associates with the phrase "lockdown" these days.

Prisons and schools.

  2. It's funny you should mention that because whenever people try to tell me that school prepares children for 'the real world' I tell them school has more in common with prison than it does 'the real world'. Never thought of the lockdown thing, though...that'll be good to add, lol. :)

  3. I know this isn't the thing you were looking for, but... If you'd ever like a tour of my kids' fabulous school (which does indeed do lockdown drills), I'd be happy to show you around there. It's free, it's public, it's a charter school, and I'm happy that my children go there.

I am not dissing homeschooling -- it is a neat thing. Just thinking out loud that my kids' school really isn't as evil and nasty as schools are being characterized to be.

  4. Thanks Heart, Stephanie, and Michelle.

Hi, Valerie, I wasn't specifically looking for anything, just struck by a thought. The school my friend's daughter goes to was closed down for 6 hours -- no peeing, no lunch -- by a rumour. I was struck then by the parallel. Not all schools are horrible, and homeschooling isn't for everyone. But I had a horrible experience and my older sons had horrible experience, so I tend to be kind of sour on the subject of schools. I am very glad that you guys found a fabulous school! Really I am. (And it does sound perfect for your family, from what I've heard.)

  5. Six hours with no peeing or lunch? It is crazy to treat little kids that way. Dang.
